Toilworn is owned and operated by Thea Schultheiss out of her home studio in the heart of England.
I launched my jewellery line in late 2015, exactly a decade after graduating from Birmingham's Jewellery School. Inspired by a mournful beauty; from the natural world and our own inward toil, I strive to create sentimental everyday jewellery, statement pieces and memento mori. Each design is carved by my hand before sacrificing itself to be reborn in metal through the lost wax casting process.
The name Toilworn is a celebration of us all creating with our hands - something from nothing - labouring over a love of craft. I take this concept through from design to completion, finishing, wrapping and packing each item with intention and awareness to detail.
I maintain a studio that is as ethical as possible; using alternatives to animal derived products whenever available; nylon mallets rather than traditional rawhide, vegan polishing compounds and purchasing outsourced materials from smaller suppliers and gemstones from trusted sources.
